The Inner Belt Loop Roadway and Skyline Trail Awarded and Adding NEW Features

Skyline trail

The. Wait. Is. Over. The highly anticipated Inner Belt Loop (IBL) Roadway and Skyline Trail (picture of locations below) have been awarded to Riverside Contracting and Weave Construction as of Oct. 10, 2022. The great news is that both bids awarded came in under project budget. Hopefully, this allows for some exciting new features to be added to both projects. City of Billings Administration, Planning, Parks, MET, and Public Works have been working hard to propose meaningful additions that are being reviewed by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
The IBL will make an important connection between the Heights and the west end of Billings.  And while walking, biking, rolling, and strolling on the scenic Skyline trail, visitors can expect to enjoy seating along the trail with beautiful views from the Rimrocks, interpretive signs with historical info about the Billings area, paved parking, MET bus shelter, bike racks, and more.
Construction for both projects is set to begin late winter, likely February 2023 when the weather allows. Contractors hope to have finishing touches done by end of construction season 2023. There will be a groundbreaking celebration when it comes time. Please stay tuned for more updates on Billings Public Works website and Facebook page.
